1. Starting with the brand's apparel IP, rather than using existing designs
Based on the image of Davao (the Black God) on the client's existing themed T-shirts, AphroSilver developed the design around "how to transform clothing patterns into three-dimensional silver jewelry." The focus wasn't on replicating a flat pattern, but on breaking down the visual focal points of the print into structures suitable for metal sculpting:
● Using a skull crown, the third eye, and fangs as key identifying features to ensure the pendant maintains consistency with the clothing pattern.
● Enhance facial contours through 3D sculpting, creating clear tonal gradations when worn and photographed.
● Retain the sharp silhouette required for a dark streetwear style, avoiding excessive softening that would diminish the brand's original personality.
● Determine the wearing size based on the actual usage scenario of the clothing and accessories, ensuring the pendant has presence without overshadowing the garment.
The value of this step lies in the fact that the customer doesn't receive a piece of silver jewelry that's "similar" to the clothing, but rather a complementary product that serves the same theme and participates in the brand's visual expression.
2. Using CAD Drawings to Secure Dimensions and Details in Advance
Before the official mold-making process, AphroSilver creates CAD drawings, allowing the client to confirm the pendant's dimensions, overall proportions, relief depth, facial details, connection points, and wearing effect.
This step is especially crucial for custom silver jewelry collaborations. Compared to communicating solely through text and photos, CAD allows both parties to establish clearer shared standards for the product before production.
3. Why Insist on 925 Sterling Silver Instead of Simply Switching to Stainless Steel?
During sample production, the client proactively inquired about a stainless steel version to compare the profitability of the two materials.
AphroSilver focuses on
sterling silver customization and therefore did not accept a stainless steel version. However, we didn't simply interpret the question as "which material is cheaper." Starting from our brand positioning, we explained to the client that this product required a vintage, three-dimensional, dark, and more high-end accessory expression, and 925 sterling silver better suited this product positioning.
Ultimately, we continued to pursue sterling silver, differentiating this product from our existing affordable trendy accessories.
4. Upgrading Positioning with Sterling Silver and Vintage Antique Finish
Considering the client's desire to extend from trendy stainless steel accessories to more sophisticated silver jewelry, AphroSilver adopted a sterling silver customization approach, using a vintage blackened finish as the primary surface treatment.
● Deep 3D Engraving
This makes the outlines of the Mahakala skull crown, third eye, and fangs clearer, enhancing the visual impact.
● Deepened Antique Grooves
The contrast between light and dark areas enhances the texture and layering, making details more easily recognizable in actual wear, product photos, and social media content.
● Vintage Blackened Finish
This makes the overall tone more in line with dark streetwear, rather than presenting an overly bright, traditional jewelry effect.
● Matching Sets
Matching a vintage twisted silver chain ensures the pendant and chain maintain stylistic consistency, creating a complete necklace product ready for immediate market release.
5. Multi-Angle Photo Confirmation Before Cross-Border Sample Delivery
After sample completion, AphroSilver takes multi-angle detailed photos of the finished product, sending the engraving precision, antique finish, and overall effect to the client for verification.
After the customer confirmed that the sample met their requirements, the product was packaged and shipped across borders to Australia.
